In the Czech Republic, the cohousing movement is at the beginning (from mid-2008).
In recent times, several sporadic tentative to realize a cohousing community both „from below" (from potential residents) and "from above" (from developers) appeared, but no cohousing project was realized for the time being.
Cohousing is still fewer known housing model here. Often, people have false notions: a high rate of no-confidence of the mainstream, on the one hand, and an uncritical enthusiasm of the alternative minorities, on the other hand.
Perhaps, the main problem that inhibits the spread of cohousing in the Czech Republic is an unsufficient experience with the participation of the renters and with the involvement of the public in decision-making process. And, Czechs are still stigmatized by the long-term totalitarian history - an interruption of the natural historical development.
